This workshop is designed to briefly present the history and theoretical assumptions behind the use of physiological recording to understand the ways media message variables affect audiences emotionally and cognitively. After this short introduction, however, much time will be spent demonstrating how we collect heart rate, skin conductance, and facial muscle data in The Institute for Communication Research at Indiana University’s Media School.
